This is the first time; I am writing a blog. The thought of writing a blog just frightens me. I was extremely confused on what is that should I write about! Articulating or penning down my thoughts is not my forte. So, finally decided to write about my recent discovery I had and sharing this may benefit some of the readers.
Have you ever had an experience where you had a long day, you are very tired and despite that you are unable to sleep well and being to feel restless! You keep tossing on your bed. At this time the body would like to sleep, but the mind is too active and is visualizing all that you have witnessed during the day. Even if you have fallen asleep, the mind visualize all that happened during the day. You are not able to sleep peacefully. This is exactly the situation that I faced recently. So much so the feeling of palpation tics in. This feeling of restlessness got me thinking! Why is that I am so restless? Why am not able to sleep? What is the impact on my health for not resting well?
As coaches, we have work with different kinds of people, and we need to be fully committed to the time we spend with our coachee. Coaching sessions can sometimes be very intriguing session for coach and a coachee. And one such intense session came during coaching a client got me completely restless. And every-time I tried to rest; my mind would repeat the complete sequence of my coachee discussions. At this time, we as coaches need to learn to unwind. And here I would like to share some to the tips, techniques I used to help myself unwind.
Deep breathing
This is a technique of a regulated breathing. I call it the “blowing a balloon”, breath in and feel your tummy rise and breath out. Continue to breath in and out. Let the breath out be longer than the breath in. Repeat this exercise 10 times with reverse counting ten to one.
Practicing relaxing yoga postures
Yoga postures are simple, and they relax the body and release tension from stressed muscles. Yoga postures combined with deep breathing has a deep relaxing
Music
High frequency meditation music is an excellent way to unwind. YouTube, Spotify and loads of other applications are available with excellent music to choose from.
Scented candles
Lavender candles lit before going to bed. These candles are definitely my best bedside buddy.
And yes finally, all screen-based electronics cut off one hour before going to bed.
The above are suggestion tried and tested for me. You may have your own ways relax and unwind! These are tips that I use, you can ask yourself, what is that makes you happy!
Finally, there are many ways to unwind, allow yourself to relax and completely surrender, as Dalai Lama said “Sleep is the best meditation”.
