NLP Coach Practitioner Program

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is based on Richard Bandler and John Grinder’s understanding that people internally code their experience of the world and of their life, first neurologically and then through language.

The nervous system through which our experience is processed via 5 senses viz. Visual, auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory. Language and other non verbal communication systems through which our neural representations are given meaning include pictures, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells and words. The ability to discover and utilize the communication to ourselves and others to achieve our desired outcome is called Programming.

In other words, Neuro Linguistic Programming is how to use language of the mind to consistently achieve our specific and desired outcome.

Thus, NLP in coaching studies the way people take in information from the world, how they describe it to themselves (code it neurologically) with their senses of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, smelling… filter it with their beliefs and values, and then act on the result.

How does Neuro Linguistic Program (NLP) work?

The basis of Neuro Linguistic Programming is the process of Modelling which has 3 elements:

  • 01
    Beliefs & Value
    Systems
  • 02
    Physiology
  • 03
    Strategies

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) is about noticing patterns. So, in NLP we are not so much interested in content as in process. It starts with an attitude of curiosity- we’re interested in knowing how things work. The first step is to pay attention to the process of interaction with self and others. This then leads us to studying and modelling successful people in a variety of situations, these models are continually tested and refined. From this modelling comes a number of techniques which help in bringing about the desired change.

Another way of saying this is that modelling during the process of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) in Coaching makes explicit the specific thinking and language patterns, beliefs, assumptions, perceptual filters and mental movies that create an experience, emotion and/or behaviour and being able to specify steps for replicating that experience.

How can NLP be useful in coaching?

Coaching with NLP helps Coaches equip with NLP tools and use multitude of NLP patterns flexibly, seamlessly and often simultaneously according to information the client is presenting verbally and non-verbally at any one moment.

Neuro Linguistic Programming in Coaching helps coaches understand about their client with below information:

  • 01
    What they do
    (behaviour, physiology)
  • 02
    How they do it
    (the way they think)
  • 03
    Why they do it
    (beliefs and values)

The complex skills an NLP coach uses are also called models, strategies, patterns, processes, tools or techniques.

It follows from the NLP principle of recognizing patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that the coach focuses on the client’s mental process rather than the content of their story. This is ‘the single most distinctive characteristic of NLP application’. It is also central to the coach’s responsibility to not impose their own perceptions, beliefs and values on the client.

NLP provides a way to look past the behavioural content of what people do to the more invisible forces behind those behaviours; to the structures of thought that allow people to perform effectively.
