My journey as a coach,
I have just started my journey to become a certified life coach, and I feel genuinely eager about what lies ahead. I am eager to learn, to meet people, to coach, and to be coached by my peers. There is something exciting about being at the beginning of a journey: so much is still unknown, and every experience has the potential to teach me something new.
Every coaching session feels like a new adventure. I discovered more about coaching, of course, but I also discovered more about myself and, perhaps most importantly, about human nature. Each conversation invites me to listen differently, to be curious, to question my assumptions and to pay attention not only to what is being said, but also to what may remain unsaid. I am learning that coaching is not about having the answers. It is about creating the space for someone else to find their own answers — the kind of shift in perspective that a transformational coach works toward with every client.
This journey is also teaching me about myself. I am becoming more aware of how I listen, how I react, what I assume, and how my own experiences can influence the way I see others. Being coached by my peers is an important part of this learning, and it’s a habit I’ve carried with me from my ICF coach training. It reminds me what it feels like to be on the other side of the conversation: to be listened to, challenged, supported and sometimes surprised by my own thoughts.
I would like to become a coach who inspires confidence and trust. A coach creates a safe space where people can explore, question themselves and discover possibilities. Ultimately, I would like to help people bring out the best in themselves – and perhaps, through them, the best in others as well. This is, at its heart, why I was drawn to personal coaching in the first place.
There is a quote often attributed to Lao Tzu that resonates deeply with me: “It’s not the destination that matters, but the journey.” Whether or not I will ever feel that I have reached a destination as a coach, I am not sure. Perhaps there is no final destination at all. Coaching may be a continuous journey of learning, questioning and becoming.
What I know is that I am on the right journey for me. I am curious about where it will take me, open to what I will discover along the way, and grateful for every person who will be part of it. And for now, that is enough. I do not need to know exactly where the journey ends. I simply want to keep walking — learning, growing, and continuing on the path toward becoming a certified life coach.
