Till the end of last year, did anyone imagine countries getting locked down? I think for most people alive today, this is the first time in their lives that they cannot go out of their homes. If you are a perennial pessimist, you might conclude that this is the beginning of the end of the world. Luckily, most of us are not perennially pessimist or even optimist for that matter.
So, lets look at it from a realistic point of view. Is this a huge problem that we have all gotten into? The answer is YES. Will we get out of this problem at some point of time? The answer is YES and the reason it is YES is that humans have lived through change ever since the first humans appeared on earth.
In the last century, in one single day, 74000 people died instantaneously when the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki in Japan. What did Japan do post the World War? They rebuilt the country and grew into one of the most developed economies.
Ok, so as they say, this too shall pass. For most of us who will survive, we need to continue building our lives, our careers, and our economies. This will call for a fair bit of resilience at individual and collective levels.
What can you do to recover and restore yourself to not just the state where you were before the pandemic, but to an even better state than before?
There are several actions you can consider to demonstrate your resilience and I will mention a few to stoke your imagination.
Firstly, re-visualize your future. Now, if your present situation post the pandemic does not look as good as your past, one strategy could be to reset and recalibrate yourself so that you only look at your present and aim to make your future better than your present. Imagine an athlete returning to competitive sports after a major injury or an executive returning to his career after a life threatening illness. Many a times they have said the injury or illness brought more clarity in their lives.
Secondly, be resourceful. Take stock of what you have (remember you are your best asset) and believe you have hidden resources of creativity, enthusiasm and talents waiting to be discovered
Thirdly, reflect on all that worked for you prior to the pandemic, review how you have been impacted and reconstruct your future
Lastly, as Nietzsche said and I quote “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger” .
Stay strong, stay safe, conserve your energy for the best game of your life. While you wait at home to restart the best game of your life, one great option to explore could be Life Coaching. In these uncertain times, a life coach could support you in designing a more fulfilling, passionate and purposeful future state. A one-on-one life coaching program will support you in bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to BE.
